CMP Highlights Inclusion and Leadership Experiences in Mining at Regional Seminar

At the event, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) presented its progress in equity and diversity, sharing stories of women who are paving the way in an industry historically led by men.

The seminar “Successful Experiences in Inclusion and Safety in Mining with a Gender Perspective”, organized by the Women and Mining Roundtable of the Atacama Region, brought together the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, local authorities and women from the mining sector. The program included various discussion panels, where CMP stood out for sharing its experiences in promoting female inclusion and leadership.

“At this seminar, we have heard presentations from women who inspire other women—their life stories, challenges and achievements. By sharing these experiences, they help open the doors for more women to join the industry. I recognize the private sector’s commitment to incorporating women alongside the public policies we are designing. I believe it is very valuable to share how barriers are being addressed so that more women can enter this industry,” stated Minister Aurora Williams.

During the event, CMP’s Deputy Human Resources Manager, Cristian Inostroza, presented the company’s purpose, its policies for attracting female talent, and the importance of diverse teams for effective decision-making and strong operational results.

“In this session, we shared two real cases where our colleagues discussed their experiences and how CMP has advanced in inclusion over time, making our purpose a reality. We are in a stage of consolidating these diversity and inclusion initiatives, with early-career attraction and strong territorial ties, to ensure that our processes remain sustainable through diverse teams,” said Inostroza.

In recent years, CMP has focused on diversifying its workforce, particularly in leadership roles. Currently, 57% of the Executive Committee, 32% of deputy management roles, and 35% of leadership positions are held by women. Women also represent 14% of the total workforce and 24% of union leadership roles in the company.

These advances are accompanied by family-friendly policies and benefits that enable women to grow professionally without sacrificing their personal and family well-being. These include maternity corporate clothing, gradual return-to-work programs, breastfeeding rooms at operational sites, and transportation agreements using electric taxis.

“I am very happy because the company has provided us with many opportunities and is highly committed to supporting working mothers. They have always been willing to help in different ways. This has made me a much happier person—I am a mother and a worker who is very grateful for all the support I have received from the company and my work team,” said Valeska Jorquera, Services Coordinator at CMP’s Los Colorados Mine and one of the employees invited to share her experience at the seminar.

Also participating in the panel was Bernardita González, IT Support Lead for Elqui Valley Operations. “I am very happy to share my experience as a working woman with a disability. The company has always been there for me, covering the surgeries I needed, including me in all processes, allowing me to work freely and confidently, and helping me show all my capabilities in this industry, which is mostly male-dominated,” she explained.

CMP’s participation in this seminar reaffirms its commitment to promoting a more inclusive, diverse, and sustainable mining industry, where women can fully develop their potential and contribute with their talent and leadership to the company and the territories where it operates.
