History

The Japanese Garden of La Serena is a contribution of Compañía Minera del Pacífico to the cultural and tourist development of the Coquimbo region. It was built between 1988 and 1995, being the largest in Latin America, with an area of 26,000 m2 of land.

Origin

Kokoro No Niwa', in English 'Garden of the Heart', gives rise to its name because it was built by two hearts, the Japanese and the Chilean, where each element has a meaning seeking to create harmony and balance, in order to produce a purifying effect among those who visit it.

Environment

Designed by Japanese architects, this site features walking trails, streams, a symbolic stone location and a traditional tea house, surrounded by a Zen garden that is illuminated by a pagoda and lanterns provided by Japanese companies related to CMP.

Description

Walking along the trails, it is possible to appreciate more than 70 varieties of plants according to the Japanese style, along with different species, among them: Koi fish, known for their longevity and size; white and black-necked swans, aquatic turtles, taguas, mallard and Peking ducks.
