CMP is nationally recognized for its performance in risk management.
The company was honored by the National Safety Council with five awards reflecting its preventive leadership, employee commitment, and achievement of safety goals.
Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) was recognized by the Chilean National Safety Council (CNS) during the 2024 Annual Safety Awards Ceremony, held at Universidad Autónoma in Santiago. The event highlighted, at a national level, the performance of companies in safety management, achievements in risk management, and accident-free operations.
At the ceremony, CMP received five awards recognizing both individual leadership and collective, operational efforts in risk management across its three operational valleys: Copiapó, Huasco, and Elqui. Among the distinctions, CMP’s CEO, Francisco Carvajal, received the 2024 “Rosalino Fuentes Silva” National Award in the Individual Category, in recognition of his career, contribution, and commitment to risk management and mining safety.
In addition, the Joint Health and Safety Committee (CPHS) of the Magnetite Plant was awarded in the Joint Health and Safety Committee category, acknowledging its active role in promoting integrated initiatives that incorporate socio-environmental attributes into operational plans, adding value to the company’s operations. The award was received by Jorge Iribarren Villalón, Superintendent of Risk Management for the Copiapó Valley, and Christopher Márquez Rojas, member of the Magnetite Plant CPHS.
Commenting on the recognition, CMP CEO Francisco Carvajal stated:
“We are very pleased, because CMP’s safety results are the outcome of teamwork across the entire company. Every employee has placed the protection of people at the center of decision-making, allowing us to achieve our objectives from that foundation.”
Regarding operational performance, the company received two awards for reaching 2,000,000 work hours without lost-time accidents, achieved over nearly four years at the El Romeral Mine and Pellet Plant. This milestone reflects the commitment and discipline of employees, together with the implementation of CMP’s Process Risk Management (PRM) business model, which enables safe and sustainable workplaces. The awards were received by Paulina Andreoli Celis, Manager of Risk Management and Sustainability, and Luis Rojas Rodríguez, Superintendent of Risk Management for the Elqui Valley.
In this regard, Paulina Andreoli noted:
“We are proud. For another year, we are being recognized for PRM and our safety performance. We congratulate all our operations, employees, and contractor companies who contribute to these results. We will continue to deepen PRM to further advance the company’s development and achievement of its goals.”
Additionally, within the framework of the 2024 National Safety Competition, CMP received the “Excellence in Risk Prevention” Award and the “National Safety Council Award”, granted to CMP and its operations in the Elqui, Huasco, and Copiapó valleys, as well as its contractor companies. These distinctions were reflected in the presentation of 30 diplomas across various operations, evidencing a company-wide commitment to risk control and safety. The awards were received by Paulina Andreoli Celis, Jorge Iribarren Villalón, and Luis Rojas Rodríguez.
For his part, Guillermo Gacitúa, President of the National Safety Council, emphasized that the event represents a moment of celebration and achievement, stating:
“The purpose of coming together is to make working life happier, and for these awards—beyond being a personal recognition—to stand as testimony to what can be achieved when people learn to care for their own lives and the lives of others.”
He also highlighted that CMP consistently receives awards, recognizing the company’s strong commitment to safety by both its leadership and workforce.
These results reaffirm CMP’s commitment to process risk management as a core business model, enabling the achievement of safety targets, the protection of people, operational excellence, and continuous improvement—aligned with its purpose of developing a different kind of mining and advancing sustainable development across all its operations.
