CMP strengthens railway safety campaign during national holidays

As part of Chile’s National Holidays celebrations, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) reinforced its railway safety campaign with a new prevention initiative in La Serena. The activity was carried out together with Carabineros de Chile, aiming to raise awareness among drivers and pedestrians about the importance of respecting traffic signals and exercising extreme caution at railway crossings.
During the event, held on Friday, September 12, representatives from CMP and Carabineros distributed informational material at various points of the railway crossing located at the intersection of Av. Francisco de Aguirre and Route 5, reinforcing the campaign’s central message: “Stop, look, and listen before crossing”—simple actions that can prevent accidents and save lives.
“We gathered at one of the busiest points in the city because during these dates the influx of people increases, and it is essential for the community to be aware that trains will continue operating, that precautions must be taken, and that we are also implementing control measures to prevent any accidents. Risk management is a priority for CMP, and we want everyone to enjoy these celebrations safely,” said Gabriela Lafuente, Superintendent of Puerto Guayacán.
This initiative adds to a series of measures implemented by the company to safeguard railway safety, including perimeter closures, cleaning and clearing of surrounding areas, as well as periodic controls developed together with public and community institutions.
“The purpose of this preventive campaign is to provide safety to both pedestrians and drivers passing through the area, raising awareness so that they travel with the utmost precautions,” emphasized Major Felipe Contreras, Operations Chief of the 1st Police Station of La Serena.
With this initiative, and in line with its business model, Process Risk Management (GRP), CMP reaffirms its commitment to safety, placing the care of people and the environment at the center of its actions. In doing so, the company strengthens its purpose of creating a different kind of mining—one that contributes to the sustainable development of the territory and its people. The call is to maintain responsible behavior at every railway crossing, especially during these National Holidays, thus contributing to safer road coexistence.
