Jaime Charles Scholarship: we continue to promote the education of young people in the region

12 Jun, 2023

Compañía Minera del Pacífico announced the award of 69 new scholarships to promote education for students in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions, specifically in the Copiapó, Huasco and Elqui valleys. This benefit bears the name of Jaime Charles, in honor of the former general manager of Grupo CAP, of which CMP is a subsidiary, who dedicated a large part of his life to promoting educational development in the communities neighboring the company's operations.

Since the implementation of the scholarship program in 2012, a total of 200 young people with outstanding academic performance have benefited from the program. In this way, as a reward for their personal effort, they are given the opportunity to pursue higher studies, either professional or technical, in institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education. In addition, the subsidy provided by the mining company is compatible with other types of public and private financial aid, and is valid for the entire period of education, with a limit of up to 24 years of age.

"Committed to the sustainable development of the territory and its people, at CMP we firmly believe that education is the most valuable tool for this purpose. We are proud to provide new scholarships to students in the regions where we are present, giving them a key opportunity to develop their skills and thus promote local talent," said Francisco Carvajal, general manager of CMP.

In parallel, the company is developing various actions that have allowed it to consolidate, in recent years, education in the territories where it operates. Among other initiatives, the company has implemented apprenticeship plans, professional internships for professional technical high schools, training innovation courses and support for university, pre-university, school and lower level courses, such as the Alfadeca program, which promotes reading and writing skills in elementary school children, with the support of company employees as volunteers.
