We delivered refurbished computers to the José Miguel Carrera school in Huasco.

In an intimate ceremony, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) delivered 15 computers, completely refurbished, to the community of the José Miguel Carrera school, under the Local Public Education Service (SLEP) Huasco.

The equipment awarded corresponds to the final product of a circular economy process, in which CMP collected electronic components from its various operations, which were subsequently refurbished by the Chilenter Foundation, which managed to revalue them and give them a second and fruitful life.

The entire process responds to CMP's sustainability strategy. On the one hand, it is reducing its carbon footprint and, on the other, consolidating its commitment to education as a fundamental pillar for the sustainable development of the territory and its people.

In this regard, the principal of the José Miguel Carrera School in Huasco, Inés Mamani, expressed her gratitude for this new support, noting that "it means a great contribution to the development of our children, especially those with special educational needs, who have been notoriously affected by the circumstances of the pandemic".

The computers were delivered by the assistant manager of CMP Valle del Huasco Operations, Marcos Sarmiento, who highlighted "the company's efforts to consolidate the education of children who are part of the territory. We are making an important connection between our operation and the surrounding communities, and all with a focus on sustainability".

The CMP Valle del Huasco Environmental Superintendent, Edgardo Rivas, explained that "this initiative was born with the collection of more than two thousand electronic equipment at all the sites, with the aim of giving them a second life, which allows us to reduce emissions and, at the same time, generate a positive social impact".

It is worth mentioning that Compañía Minera del Pacífico and the Sara Raier de Rassmuss Foundation are developing the Alfadeca program in the classrooms of the aforementioned school, thus promoting reading and writing skills in elementary school students.

Nelson Godoy, the school's technical advisor, said: "we are very happy with CMP, because we have created a good alliance, encouraging reading among young students and supporting professional technical high schools in our area".
