We implemented a new electric shovel at Mina Los Colorados.

27 Apr, 2022

Tuesday, March 22 was a major milestone for the company and its different way of mining. It was the official inauguration of the new 100% electric shovel at Mina Los Colorados.

The event was attended by the executive committee, as well as the performance of various rituals focused on the safety of the people who will operate the modern and impressive equipment, which has a bucket with a capacity of 56 yards, reaching a loading time of 90 seconds in 250-ton trucks.

The implementation of the shovel translates into lower emissions, higher productivity, better reliability and a considerable cost reduction. In this regard, the assistant manager of Valle del Huasco Operations, Marcos Sarmiento, said that "with this milestone we are kicking off all the development that is coming in the operation of Mina Los Colorados. We hope that this inauguration will be one of many that we will carry out in the future, leveraging the strategy of consolidating our operation both at the mine and in the valley in general.

It is worth mentioning that the assembly process of a second new electric shovel is currently underway. Likewise, both the assembly and the transfer and start-up of the equipment in operation had zero incidents, thanks to strict planning under the aegis of GRP and its attributes.

Another of the significant points of the new shovel is that its implementation is preventing the emission of more than 2,500 tons of carbon dioxide. "This is the beginning of a process of modernization of many of our facilities. This shovel consolidates our vision of sustainability, replacing equipment that emits greenhouse gases," added CMP's general manager, Francisco Carvajal.
