We are recognized as having the lowest accident rate in the Chilean mining industry

Dec 31, 2022

Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) was recognized with the "Explotación de Minas y Canteras" award for its 6 million hours worked without occupational accidents during the year 2021, positioning itself as the company with the lowest incident rate in the mining industry. This recognition is granted by the Chilean National Safety Council to companies, industries and institutions that have achieved the lowest frequency rate in occupational accident risks, injuries and occupational diseases.

The company was also recognized in the "Annual National Distinctions" categories for its constant concern for the safety of its employees and collaborators.

"This award recognizes the conscious effort we make at CMP to position our employees at the center of the company, to have a safe job that results in health for them, wellbeing for their families and sustainable operations for us, which has allowed us to achieve the best standards in the industry in this area. They are part of the heart of our processes and from there we are building a different, sustainable mining industry that grows with the territory and its people", said CMP's general manager, Francisco Carvajal, after receiving the award.

This distinction reflects the downward trend in recent years exhibited by CMP, defined by its operational model Process Risk Management (PRM), to identify risks, evaluate them and control them effectively.

Macarena Herrera, CMP's Occupational Health and Safety Manager, referred to the joint work carried out during the year with the National Safety Council and the link between the two organizations to share good practices in matters of dissemination and training in risk management, safety and health. "We work from the processes to maintain safe and healthy work environments, which has allowed us to have high level standards such as the NEO (New Operational Standard). We do this hand in hand with local workers and collaborators who develop critical activities, in a unique model that connects the company's strategy with shared growth from the processes".

Currently, CMP is promoting work in asset and infrastructure management to ensure a standard of facilities that allow operational continuity in its best condition. Among the challenges that the company has outlined are: to maintain a sustained low incident rate; to reduce process variability and control the reliability of assets that have the potential to harm people and operational continuity; and to consolidate GRP as the only way to operate.
