PORT GUACOLDA II

Exporting pellets to the world

LOCATION

The Guacolda II Port is close to the Pellets Plant, 4 kilometers south of the Huasco port. The facilities, operational since 1978, can receive vessels from 20 thousand metric tons (MT) to 260,000 TON, with a daily loading rate of 60 thousand MT of pellet product and 35 thousand MT of pellet feed.

DIMENSIONS

The maximum dimensions allowed for the vessels are: length: 315 m, beam: 55 m, draft: 22 m and air draft: 18 m. The operation maneuvers can be carried out during the day and at night.

The stacking facilities consist of two north-south parallel 800 meters long, 50 meters wide, north of the pellet plant.

THE PELLET

Product is retrieved from the storage yard by track-mounted Capachos retrievers, derived to a mobile transfer that moves on rails on the shipping belt. The product is transported to the shipping tower, whose structure has angular movements in the horizontal and vertical planes.

MARITIME INSTALLATIONS

The mooring system comprises two "bitts" with quick-release hooks on each of the dolphins to assist with the running of the vessel and six buoys designed to stabilize vessels up to 260,000 MT. The berthing, mooring, and departure maneuvers are coordinated and supervised by a harbor pilot.
