IRONCLAD COMMITMENT

We are the first mining company to promote an executive committee with gender parity

8 Mar, 2023

Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) announced the appointment of three new managers to its executive committee, which as of March 1, 2023 will be made up of five women and five men. In this way, the company became the first mining company to achieve gender parity in executive positions, increasing the participation of women in these roles from 40% to 50%.

The decision is part of the company's sustainability strategy, aligned in turn with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 agenda, and reinforces the work deployed in recent years to create a different kind of mining linked to the territory and its people in the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo.

In addition, the professionals appointed were incorporated into their new positions in accordance with the internal succession process promoted by the company. They are Makarina Orellana, former Planning Manager, who now takes over as Operations Manager; Claudia Monreal, former Assistant Manager of Development of the Project Development Management, who takes over as Planning and Development Manager; and Paulina Andreoli, former Assistant Manager of Environment, who leads the new Environment and Climate Change Management.

Commenting on her appointments, Makarina Orellana stated that "being the first woman in the history of the national mining industry to assume the management of all the operations of a company is a source of pride and a great challenge. I believe that this appointment represents the purpose we have at CMP to create a more inclusive and diverse environment, key elements to incorporate new perspectives for more effective and strategic decision making. I am confident in the work we will do to face the current challenges of the industry and lead CMP towards a sustainable and responsible future.

Claudia Monreal, in turn, emphasized: "the importance for women of being able to become active examples of integration, committed work, and the permanent search for innovations that help our development strategy, based on the capabilities and talents of each of our workers.

Paulina Andreoli pointed out that her promotion to lead a new management team is a "challenge aligned with the corporate strategy of incorporating the attribute of sustainability into processes and policies, a fundamental step to achieve a modern mining operation that is connected to the impact of our actions on the territory".

A corporate strategy

Francisco Carvajal, CEO of CMP, stated that "thanks to the energy of our people, we are the first mining company to form an executive committee with equal numbers of men and women. This March 8, with the strength of iron, at CMP we renew our commitment to diversity, inclusion and gender equity".

In addition to the executive committee, Carvajal recalled that CMP has been promoting the incorporation of women in other positions, and thus 29% of the company's assistant managers and superintendents are led by women. In addition, it has managed to reach 15% of total female staff within the company, more than double the figure for the 2012-2018 period (7.4%).

The company has also promoted a set of measures related to diversity, inclusion and gender equity, including a new approach to its recruitment and selection processes, the implementation of training with a gender focus, among others. In turn, CMP's collaborating companies have incorporated these guidelines and have managed to increase the participation of women within their own teams.

In terms of territorial management, the company has created specific programs to support women in the community, with special attention to women entrepreneurs and artisanal fisherwomen in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions, particularly in the communities where CMP has operations and projects.
